I have been in practice for 15 years and have found that it is very possible to help couples rediscover intimacy and pleasure in their relationships. Often the problem is simply a need for both partners to find ways of expressing what they feel and knowing that they are understood by the other. It is not even necessary that partners agree but simply that they get their point across. Often after one has an experience of being heard and understood feelings of closeness and affection can begin to flow more freely without resentment and the quarreling that often is a symptom of misunderstandings and unexpressed and unresolved issues.
Through couples counseling each partner has the opportunity of expressing the important issues that have been affecting their sense of the relationship. The presence and support of the counselor makes it easier to have these feelings heard without the complications that arise when the couple is in their private world where issues often get lost in arguments and defensive maneuvers .
I am able through experience and very basic and logical principles to create an atmosphere that allows for this process to take place. I will be happy to explain this in greater detail. It is worth the try . I have seen couples on the brink of divorce restore intimacy and rediscover the attraction and affection they had lost touch with.
