I feel strongly about helping couples and families to find joy and fulfillment in their relationships. In over 25 years of practice, with a Ph.D. in Marital and Family Therapy, I have developed a distinctive theory of helping--Identity Renegotiation Counseling--that focuses on how people try to change each other. When people come with emotional and behavioral problems, I interpret them as connected with their relationships.
Romantic partners, parents, stepparents, children and adolescents often seem to be trying to destroy each other with punishment and criticism. Depression, addictions, learning problems, and sexual dysfunction often grow out of negativity. I help to rebuild trust and comfort as people balance acceptance and validation with negotiating for needed changes. Relational goals are usually met in 3-6 months.
