Chicago, IL Marriage & Family Counselor
Chicago Psychological Services
Personal Statement
I have enjoyed working as a counselor for over thirty years. I went into this work because I experienced how helpful counseling was to me, when I really needed it.
I have learned to understand myself and to overcome my anxiety and depression, as well as to improve my marriage and to overcome my addiction to overeating.

Over the years I have sought out training with the best therapists, learning the most effective methods. I have had special training with families, including children and adolescents, and couples. I did postgraduate work at the Family Institute of Chicago from 1978 to 1980, to increase my understanding of marriage and family therapy.

In 1987 I attended a “Couples in Crisis” international conference in Rome, where I spent a week talking with marriage and family therapists from around the world.
With a therapist from Chile, I developed a model of seeing couples every week or so, either as a couple or in a couples’ group, to explore what was happening in their relationship and to suggest changes they could make, monitoring these changes each time they came in.

The deeper issues in couples’ therapy usually stem from patterns learned in one’s family of origin. We invited each member of a couple to work through their family of origin issues in a separate weekly group. Then we discussed how those issues come into their marriage when we see them together. We saw couples using this model for seven years in Chile, and I continue to use this model in my practice in Chicago.

I also trained for two years in Addictions Counseling at Grant Hospital, and treat people with all kinds of addictions. I trained with Brian Weiss in past life therapy, and enjoy working with the many people he refers to me. I am familiar with people of all cultures, including Asians, Hispanics, Afro-Americans, Africans, and Europeans. I have traveled in many countries of the world, and have lived in Germany and Chile. I see many gay and lesbian clients. I speak German and Spanish fluently.

I would welcome a chance to talk with you about the possibility of my helping you. I will do my best to understand and appreciate you as the unique person you are, and to help you accomplish your goals in therapy.
