Parental Collaboration
Close parental collaboration is an integral part of Dr. Pottkotter's work with a child. She provides an initial separate, no obligation parental consultation of approximately 75 minutes to explore counseling or testing with a child. At this time the parent(s) explain the child's situation and collaborate with Dr. Pottkotter to determine what course of action might best be designed to meet the child's specific needs.
Child Counseling
After the initial parental consultation, Dr. Pottkotter continues to collaborate regularly with the parents regarding the child's treatment. Counseling sessions consist of a standard 10 minute parental meeting to discuss the child's progress and needs, followed by exactly 50 minutes of individual counseling with the child. The individual counseling with the child is highly nurturing and practical. Self-discipline, emotional management, and social skills are learned and modeled throughout the counseling process. Additional parental consultations may be held whenever needed.
